HILEVEL Technology announces 3rd-level feature in Griffin III tester family

Irvine, CA
With modern signal families operating on lower logic level swings and based on current switching rather than the voltage, it is mandatory to provide active termination for the signals at the receiver side of the line. HiLevel Technology Inc. announced today a new feature available with the Griffin III family of IC testers. The pin electronics drivers are now capable of producing three distinctive voltage levels, and with fixed 50ohm output impedance this facilitates high-speed active termination for single-ended as well as differential (split) signals.

This fully programmable and flexible solution eliminates any need for custom termination circuits on the DUT Interface Board, reducing engineering development time, any additional parts, instruments or control signals as well as debuging and maintenance costs. All the settings are saved with the test setup and later can be modified, disabled or enabled at any time, depending on user needs. Termination voltage settings can be included as a part of the test procedure (for example in DC PMU or Shmoo plot) for functional test or device characterization, which is impossible with an external circuit.

Both the driver and comparators are located on a single chip. The termination is provided directly at the comparator input thus eliminating any stubs or signal degradation, even for the most demanding configurations. This unique feature cannot be achieved using external components. The third voltage is per pin programmable, covering full voltage swing range from –1.5V up to +6.5V with 5mV resolution and operates on all available test rates. This feature can be enabled for selected pins while other pins can operate in standard driver high impedance mode.
