Q: What should I know about ETSNT files?

The Files of ETSNT

The files associated with ETSNT are of two classifications; 1) files that are part of the operating software, and 2) files created while using the software. These two types are addressed in the two columns below.

Files Created by ETSNT
These files may exist in any directory. It is up to you to remember where you have saved them! Devise a meaningful directory structure for your work; each user could have his/her own directory, or you may wish to create a new subdirectory for each new device or test program you begin development.

NT_CAL.DAT Calibration file created when ETSNT calibration is complete, and is the calibration file only for pre-ETS700 series systems. Contains all of the constants and values meticulously measured during the automatic calibration process from the "Calibrate" window. These constants are restored each time you Initialize the ETS, insuring conformance to specs. This file must reside in the "C:\ETS123" folder.

NT_CAL7.DAT Calibration file created when ETSNT calibration is complete, and is the calibration file only for ETS700 series systems. Contains all of the constants and values meticulously measured during the automatic calibration process from the "Calibrate" window. These constants are restored each time you Initialize the ETS, insuring conformance to specs. This file must reside in the "C:\ETS123" folder.

CAL.LOG Calibration log file that contains information about the last calibration. Used only for reference by HILEVEL service personnel when trying to evalute problems.

filename.LOG Some ETSNT functions produce a LOG file containing results or other information. The files have a descriptive filename; for example, ACPMU.LOG will contain the results of ACPMU timing tests.

filename.ATX Test Suite information used by the AutoTest windows. You create this file with a "Save Suite" from AutoTest.

filename.SET SET files contain virtually everything you define in the ETSNT software except vectors and pattern generator programs, including the following:

  • Pin names, numbers and ETS channels
  • Timing and Logic Levels
  • Programmable load settings
  • AC and DC PMU definitions
  • One Shmoo Plot setup
  • DUT power settings
  • Run Setup info (like test rate)
  • Timing-On-the-Fly assignments
  • Memory Test definitions

You create a SET file (after having defined the desired setups above) with the "Save" or "Save As..." options under the "File" drawer at the top of the ETSNT window. Set files can also contain (optionally) the names of these files associated with it:

  • Vector files (.TRN)
  • Pattern Generator programs (.PRG)
  • Scan vectors (.SCN)

filename.TRN Test vectors. The extension TRN traditionally means "translated vectors" but the same extension is used even if you created your vectors by hand. You can quickly download TRN files to the ETS or upload them from ETS to disk using the tool buttons:

filename.CMT The comment file pertaining to a TRN file with the same filename. The ASCII comment file is saved/loaded automatically when you save/load the TRN vector file.

filename.VEC This extension is typically used to denote an ASCII input file for the CaeLink translator. Requires that you enter the proper header information prior to translation.

filename.LNK The older extension for CaeLink input files, later changed to ".VEC".

filename.LGC Later versions of ETSNT's CaeLink translator reported results in this ASCII log file. Earlier and DOS versions of the software used the ".LOG" extension.

filename.SCN Test vectors for Scan.

filename.PRG The pattern generator program file. This ASCII file contains the loops and jumps that you define in the Vectors window. It may also be generated using the $L command in CaeLink.

filename.IN The input file containing Sentry Factor vectors for use with SentryLink.

filename.OUT The output file created by SentryLink defaults to the same filename as the input file.

filename.PLT The extension PLT means that the file is a graphic capture of a shmoo plot. It can only be viewed by opening the file from the Shmoo Plot window.

filename.INP An input file for the Curve Trace feature.

filename.RES The results file created by the Curve Trace feature.

filename.MEM Memory Test Suite file.

MEMPINS.TXT The PinList used by the Memory Test feature.

PINLIST.TXT To import a pinlist (rather than enter each name and pin number manually) organize your pinlist in the same format as this example file.

Spscript.txt This file would contain any Special Scripts that you might like invoked automatically on startup.

AllScriptNames.txt contains all of the Special Scripts to date. Update the file by clicking the "Scripts" button from the Special Scripts window.

ETSNT Software Files
Most of these files must reside in the folder (subdirectory) "c:\ETS123", while some appear only on the installation disk.

ETSNT.EXE This is the executable operating software, invoked when you click on the ETSNT icon.

ETSNT.HLP The Help file for ETSNT.EXE. When you press F1 in any ETSNT window, this file is referenced for the proper Help topic.

ETSFLASH.EXE An executable module that updates the flash memory on the BOA interface card (connected to the ETS) which uses the FIRMWARE.OBJ file.

FIRMWARE.OBJ The object file for firmware upgrades (to the BOA Flash RAM) that accompanies new releases of ETSNT.EXE.

README.RTF A Rich Text format document that contains release notes. Usually accompanies new releases of ETSNT.EXE.

RELNOTES.RTF A Rich Text format document that contains release notes. Usually accompanies new releases of ETSNT.EXE.

ETSNT.GID Information file used by ETSNT.EXE. Must remain in C:\ETS123.

PMPCAL.EXE An executable that performs calibrations from within ETSNT.

CAELINK.EXE The translator module for the CAE-Link translator. (Later incorporated into ETSNE.EXE).

CS_LINK.EXE The ScanLink module for the translation of Scan vectors.

S2TOPAZ.EXE The SentryLink executable module that is invoked by the "Sentry to HILEVEL" button on the "Translators" window.

TV2S.EXE The SentryLink executable module that is invoked by the "HILEVEL to Sentry" button on the "Translators" window.

ASC2ETS.EXE A translation tool for converting ASCII vectors to ETS.

ASC2ETS.EXE A translation tool for converting ETS vectors to ASCII.
