As of version 5.3, we increased number of comments from 10,000 to 32,000. We suspect there still remains some '16-bit DOS magic' in the NT operating system, preventing reliable indexing beyond 32K (the comment space is dynamically allocated). We expect that some later version of NT will permit us to increase the aforementioned number tenfold and beyond. In any event, after this release we will increase the comment spade tenfold and incite customers in dire need for more comments to give it a try. 

The comment field is also used in different ways for other ETSNT functions.  During memory test, it is automatically generated to describe instructions.  Analog Panel uses it to program DACs and perform analog measurements.  And there is also a mode for the pattern generator to symbolically generate programs.
