Q: What about NIST cal on TOPAZV and ETS7000?

NIST Calibration on Legacy Systems

So important to most test situations is the ability to trace tester resources to a known calibrated constant.  The ETS series of systems running on NT have a simple and effective NIST calibration procedure, but what about HiLevel legacy systems such as the TOPAZV and ET7000?  There are still many of these systems in the field supporting important military, commercial and aerospace test.  These systems also can be calibrated and certified to NIST standards, and although it is not as easy as the NT version, any capable technician can perform it easily.  The procedure is outlined clearly in Chapter 7 of the Maintenance Manual.  This note offers some additional tips for this procedure.

Equipment
The following equipment (or equivalent) is required for the performance of the NIST calibration on TOPAZV and ETS7000.  If an equivalent is used it must be understood that the actual setup steps for the procedure using that item will most likely be different from the cal procedure shown in chapter 7 of the manual.  It is assumed that the person performing the calibration is capable of interpreting the steps defined in the manual into new steps applicable to the equivalent equipment.  Instruments that are known to have performed satisfactorily for substitution are listed where applicable.

Each instrument should be warmed up for an hour prior to the calibration using the same AC outlets that will be used during the calibration in order to prevent destabilization by unplugging and moving the instrument.

NIST Calibration Equipment List

It is important to note the DUT board used.  Do not use adapter type DUT boards as the power supply sense lines are not connected to the DUT power on these boards.

Most labs have cooling systems, often with floor vents.  If your air conditioning turns on and off you should position the test system and instruments so that they are out of drafts to insure stability during the procedure.

HiLevel recommends NIST calibration to be performed every six months.
